Just a quick post as I settle down to my Christmas eve glass of chianti to say Merry Christmas!
This year’s Christmas crochet hasn’t all been gifted yet, so I can’t share much with you in terms of pictures… but here’s a little bit of what I’ve been up to lately.
Autumn/Winter Crochet Wreath
After making myself a wreath last year, one of my good friends asked me if I’d be able to make her one for this year.
Her brief was to include a robin and some ice skates – and other than that, she left me to my own devices!
Here’s what I came up with:

I wanted her to be able to legitimately display it for half the year – so I didn’t want this to be a purely Christmassy design. The autumn/winter thing was fun to do – with the falling crochet leaves and the sequin snowflakes separating the cold skies into two halves.
I used Tunisian simple stitch for the main wreath, and then amigurumi techniques for the robin and boots.

Most of the wreath is made with Stylecraft Special DK, apart from the white snowy section, which is King Cole Glitz DK – a lovely yarn with some subtle sparkle. The sparkle really added to the snow effect.
Making my Christmas gifts
I might have taken on a bit too much this year – as per usual – but I’ve been crocheting like mad for weeks!

As always, Ted has been a really big help.

Planning – and not having time for – upcycling projects
After the success of the Annie Sloan upcycling project (which has just been set up as our Christmas bar – I owe you all a photo!), I have massively caught the upcycling bug. As soon as Christmas crochet is finished, I’m going to be covered in paint for about a month.
These are my latest fantastic find:

I have four of these beauties – acquired in a slightly unorthodox fashion when I misunderstood the “re-use” section at the local tip.

After being told off by the guy working there, he let me take these as apparently the charity they donate the goods to has stopped taking chairs for a while. I was thrilled – this meant I was able to take my lovely chairs and save them from certain landfill-death!

I am planning exciting stuff for these… including this gorgeous fabric to re-cover the seats:

These chairs will hopefully be back with their very own blog post soon!
Anyway, that’s all for now – I’m still making Christmas presents and it’s Christmas eve…
Merry Christmas all! I hope Santa is kind to you this year.
Until next time,
Elsie Pop
